The very first Dutch translation of Jules Verne’s De la Terre à la Lune (1865) was published in 1871 by C.L. van Langenhuijsen as an unauthorised edition without illustrations, under the pseudonym Pasquino van Langendahl. Jules Verne’s name was not mentioned. This edition, titled De lotgevallen van de beroemde luchtreizigers Michel Ardan, Barbicane en Nicholl, was rediscovered by the Dutch Jules Verne Society only in 2006.

Before this, the first Dutch edition was assumed to be the translation published in 1876 by P. van Santen under the title De reis naar de maan in 28 dagen en 12 uren, an abridged combination of Verne’s two novels De la terre à la lune (1865) and Autour de la lune (1870).

The reprint by Frits Roest for the Dutch Jules Verne Society contains (with a few minor corrections) the complete text of the 1871 edition, evoking the style of the era when it was first published.

This paperback edition of De lotgevallen van de beroemde luchtreizigers Michel Ardan, Barbicane en Nicholl contains 171 pages, and is printed in black and white with a full-colour cover.
